ECHRD Holds First Training Session in Giza to Observe Senate Elections

The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development held today in cooperation with the Women for Development Association the first training session for the coalition’s observers for the 2020 Senate elections.

The human rights expert and electoral systems consultant, Abdel Nasser Qandil, trained (26) followers representing 11 civil associations in Giza Governorate.


Mr. Qandil introduced the participants to the Senate and the difference between it and the Shura Council, which was abolished. The participants were also trained on the constitutional and legislative package related to the Senate elections. The training program included introducing the participants to the mechanisms of election follow-up, monitoring and documentation mechanisms, as well as the rights and interests of the observer.

It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian Alliance for Human Rights and Development includes 550 civil societies representing 11 Egyptian governorates and aims to strengthen the partnership between NGOs among themselves and contribute to the enjoyment of citizens’ rights and commitment to their duties from a human rights and development perspective.
