Marwa Ali Al-Sharbini, 32, an Egyptian pharmacist from Alexandria, played for the Egyptian national handball team. Marwa graduated from Al Nasr College for Girls in 1995 and joined Alexandria University’s Faculty of Pharmacy and graduated in 2000, worked in a pharmacy and then married in 2004 and travelled with her husband to Germany to study her master’s and doctorate.

On July 1, 2009, in the German city of Dersden, Alex Wenz, 28, a German of Russian origin stabbed her with a knife 18 times, stabbing her in the abdomen, chest and back in court where she was attending the appeal hearing of The offender after a previous trial fined him 780 euros for assaulting Marwa  (victim)  before, describing her as a terrorist and trying to remove her veil, and her Egyptian husband Alawi Ali Akaz who was a teaching assistant at the Institute of Genetic Engineering at the University of Menoufia was stabbed  and received several stab wounds.

On November 11, 2009, the killer was sentenced to life imprisonment.
