Today, Wednesday, May 11, 2022, the Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development (ECHRD) condemned the assassination of Palestinian journalist Sherine Abu Aqleh in the early hours of this morning while she was broadcasting with some of her fellow journalists the storming of the Israeli occupation forces into Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank. They were exposed to direct fire, which also resulted in the injury of journalist Ali Al-Samudi was shot in the back.

The occupation forces stormed Jenin with the aim of searching for the last suspect in the implementation of Operation Elad, which took place last Thursday, east of Tel Aviv, and led to the killing of 3 Israelis, and the injury of others to varying degrees.

It is worth noting that since 1972, 82 Palestinian journalists and correspondents have died while doing their work after being shot by the Israeli occupation. This confirms the deliberate targeting of journalists to hide their violations against the Palestinian people.

The ECHRD holds the occupation army responsible for the martyrdom of the journalist Sherine Abu Akleh, and demands urgent UN investigations into the incident and the punishment of the perpetrator. Field journalists are among the protected groups in conflict areas in accordance with the four Geneva Conventions.
