…………………………………………………………………….

Today, Thursday, February 17, 2022, the Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development denounced the Swedish Telecom company “Ericsson” financing of the terrorist organization ISIS. After investigations, it became clear that a number of the company’s employees in Iraq had paid bribes to members of some terrorist groups, including ISIS, in return for using transportation routes controlled by these groups to avoid Iraqi customs and duty points.

The company had announced that the internal investigation began in 2018 after noticing unusual spending in Iraq. A number of employees had been dismissed as a result of the investigation. Moreover, the investigation revealed that there was a suspicion of money laundering because of the way those payments were made.

The ECHRD demands that the company present an official apology to the Iraqi people, and that the employees involved in this case be brought to criminal justice.
