ECHRD Condemns Ethiopian Militias’ Attacks against Sudanese Army & calls on UN to Intervene to Stop Deterioration of Conditions on Sudanese-Ethiopian Borders

The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development condemns the frequent attacks by the Ethiopian militias against Sudanese forces and Ethiopian escalation of tension on Sudanese Ethiopian borders; the matter which represents a great threat for the status of peace and security in the Horn of Africa and exposes the lives of civilians to danger in addition to aggravating the crisis of refugees who escaped from dispute in Tigray Region which witnesses crimes against humanity committed by forces affiliated to Ethiopian regime against the residents of the region. The forces of Sudanese Army have been exposed to an ambush of Ethiopian forces and militias inside the Sudanese lands which resulted in loss of lives and equipment.

It is not the first time that Ethiopia attacks Sudanese borders as in  June the Sudanese Army confronted the Ethiopian forces in Al Anfal site in the eastern bank of Atbara River in Al Fashqa area near the Sudanese Ethiopian borders. In addition, Ethiopian militias supported by Ethiopian Army have penetrated into Sudanese lands and attacked citizens and units of Sudanese Armed Forces inside Sudanese lands on 29th May 2020 which resulted in the death and injury of number of officers and members of armed forces and civilians including children.

The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights & Development assures that what is committed by Ethiopian militias supported by the Ethiopian Army violates all international and African charters of human rights and calls for documenting their crimes against civilians and submitting them to the concerned international bodies. Moreover, the alliance calls the UN bodies to interfere to stop tension in the Horn of Africa and provide all means of protection for refugees and civilians in Sudanese-Ethiopian bordering areas.
