Press Release

The Egyptian Alliance for Human Rights and Development condemns the terrorist attack of ISIS in the Torode area, southwest of Niger, near Burkina Faso, which killed 15 soldiers and wounded 7 in addition to the loss of 6 others. The Nigerian Defense Forces indicated that they were ambushed by the terrorist organization ISIS, and reported that soldiers who tried to evacuate the wounded were later injured by an improvised explosive device. The Torode region is located within the border triangle between Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali, which has been the scene for years of bloody operations by groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS terrorists.

The Egyptian Alliance for Human Rights and Development expresses deep concern over the continuing terrorist attacks of pro-ISIS terrorist groups in Sahel countries, and calls on the African Union, the United Nations and the international community to provide support and assistance to Niger to counter terrorist operations by militant groups and support the state’s efforts in its fight against terrorism.
