The Egyptian coalition condemns the burning of more than 200 homes and the killing of 34 in northern Nigeria

Today, Wednesday, March 23, 2022, ECHRD condemned the armed attacks and acts of violence taking place in northern Nigeria; The Nigerian authorities announced the killing of at least 34 people, including two soldiers, who were shot dead by gunmen in several attacks in northwest Nigeria, and more than 200 homes and about 30 shops were burned during the violence.
The Egyptian coalition calls on the Nigerian authorities and security forces to deal firmly and sternly with armed terrorist groups, in implementation of the law and in order to preserve the rights of innocent citizens.
It is worth noting, that these acts of violence are the latest attributed to heavily armed gangs known locally as “bandits” and are active in the north-west and center of the largest country in Africa in terms of population, where they loot, kidnap and kill residents. On the same day, 16 villagers were killed in an attack in the neighboring state of Zamfara. In early January, more than 200 people were killed in similar circumstances in Zamfara state.
The Egyptian coalition warns against acts of armed violence by terrorist groups in Africa; To preserve civilians and the cohesion of states, to preserve the sovereignty of African states, and to promote and respect human rights on the entire African continent.
