The Forum for Development and Human Rights Dialogue (FDHRD) expresses its condemnation of the burning of a copy of the Qur’an by a leader of a far- right party in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, in front of the Turkish embassy. These acts represent an insult to the Islamic religion, and fuel hate speech and violence.
On January 21, 2023, Swedish police allowed far-right party leader Rasmus Paludan, who leads an anti-immigration party in Denmark, to burn a copy of the Quran near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm during a rally.
The FDHRD denounces this reprehensible act against the Islamic religion and the Muslims’ references, symbols and sanctities. These actions have serious repercussions on the relation between the countries that implement these actions and Muslims.
The Forum calls for an end to these violations against other religions that increase tension between people of different religions, demanding respect for different religions because of their important role in achieving societal peace. It is the safety valve for any society that wants to live in peace and harmony.
