The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development condemns the attack on civilians in eastern Burkina Faso near Togo and Benin by a group of armed terrorists on Sunday 21-5-2023 suspected of being jihadists. As the attackers killed about 15 civilians, mostly herders, by executing them and then they took their livestock, and people were also injured.

Gunmen also launched another attack at around 9 p.m., causing some residents to flee massively from the shooting. This is not the first time that an attack has taken place by a terrorist group in Burkina Faso, actually the violent attacks against civilians has increased recently in dispersed areas of Burkina Faso. In total, about 70 civilians have been killed over the past week in various attacks targeting several areas of the country.

The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development rejects and condemns these repeated violent terrorist acts in Burkina Faso and expresses its concern at the continuing vile attacks that threaten the stability and lives of civilian citizens, as that will lead to an escalation of violence in the region, and turn civilians into militants to defend themselves and protect their families.

The Egyptian Coalition also demands that these extremist terrorist groups be arrested and held accountable for constantly encroaching on peaceful civilian rights, robbing them of their rights and lives and stealing their livestock and lands.
