Today, Tuesday, June 14, 2022, the Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development (FDHRD) condemned the Houthi militia’s giving Yemeni citizenship to foreign mercenaries from Iran and Hezbollah working in the Houthi troops, estimated at about 400 people since Abdul Karim al-Houthi assumed the position of Minister of Interior in May 2019.

It is noteworthy that the process of granting Yemeni citizenship is done in secret, which is likely to increase the mentioned number. The militias grant it to fighters from Iran, Iraq and Lebanon, describing them as experts who came since the Houthi militia coup and its control of state institutions on September 21, 2014.

The ECHRD denounces the Houthis’ taking of these steps, especially since they are not recognized by the international community, and this threatens the continuation of UN attempts to establish a truce and peace talks efforts.
