Today, Thursday, February 3, 2022, the ECHRD condemned the killing of 60 people in a center for the displaced in Blaine Safo, in the province of Dugu in northeastern Congo, when armed men attacked them with knives.
Security investigations indicated that the perpetrators of the terrorist attack belonged to the “Codeco” militia, most of whose fighters belong to the Lendu ethnic group, who carried out the terrorist attack.
Congo is living in a state of insecurity and political instability, as the rate of terrorist attacks against the country has increased during the last period by the same
militias. At least 20 people were killed in a similar attack on a camp for the displaced in the same province last November.
The ECHRD condemns terrorist acts targeting refugees and displaced people on the Africa and calls on the international community to pay attention to the danger these groups pose to the security of civilians.
