The Egyptian Alliance for Human Rights and Development today Saturday, April 10, 2021 condemned the return of pro-Turkish Syrian mercenaries from Libya.

The Egyptian Alliance for Human Rights and Development confirmed that the Turkish government has sent a new batch of 380 mercenaries to Libya in the past few days. This comes against the backdrop of mounting discontent among mercenaries in Libya from staying there and not returning, especially since their situation is very bad.

The Egyptian Alliance for Human Rights and Development warns of Ankara’s intentions to keep groups of Syrian factions loyal to it in Libya to protect Turkish bases. The Alliance fears that “the return of a few of them is only a Turkish manoeuvre and a media return, as there are more than 6,630 mercenaries still in Libya.”

The Egyptian Alliance for Human Rights and Development is calling on the United Nations to launch an immediate and independent investigation into the halting of the return of pro-Turkish Syrian mercenaries from Libya, which has been stalled since March 21, which is contrary to human rights law and obligations in accordance with International Humanitarian Law, which must be respected by all parties.
