As part of ongoing preparations for the 2025 Senate elections, and in implementation of National Elections Authority Decision No. 1 of 2025, the Egyptian Coalition for Development and Human Rights, in cooperation with the “Empowerment Association for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” in Sohag Governorate, organized a training course on Sunday, July 20, 2025, to qualify civil society observers participating in monitoring the electoral process.
The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacities of representatives from civil society organizations in Sohag, enabling them to effectively conduct field monitoring of the elections in a way that promotes an atmosphere of integrity and transparency and supports democratic participation in accordance with the legal frameworks regulating the electoral process.
The training was led by human rights expert Mr. Tarek Farag, who delivered a comprehensive training program that combined theoretical knowledge with practical application. The program was based on principles of neutrality and independence and aligned with the framework set by the National Elections Authority for civil society organization observers.
The workshop covered several key topics, including:
- Democratic principles and the Egyptian electoral system
- The role of civil society organizations in election monitoring
- Voting and counting stages and mechanisms for promoting integrity
- Methods for detecting electoral violations and preparing reports
- National and international legal standards related to election observation
- Practical training and realistic simulation of election day
This training course is part of a series of workshops being conducted by the coalition in various governorates, aiming to prepare professional cadres capable of carrying out their oversight roles with impartiality and legal commitment, in support of Egypt’s democratic transition.
