The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development strongly condemns the armed attack that took place in a church in Istanbul, stressing its solidarity with the victims of such extremist acts.
The attack took place, on Sunday morning 28/1/2024 in the “Sarıyer” area of “Istanbul”, and was carried out by “two masked men”, in a “Catholic” church in Istanbul, during a mass on Sunday, killing at least one person and injuring two people.
In this regard, the Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development affirms that this act constitutes a flagrant violation of the right to life and the right to practice religious rites, which are recognized by all international human rights conventions.
The Egyptian Coalition calls on the Turkish authorities to work quickly and steadily to protect the basic rights of their citizens and stresses the importance of continuing to coordinate international efforts to confront extremism, especially confronting it intellectually to defeat its evil from its roots.
