The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development (ECHRD) condemns the terrorist attack led by members of the Islamic State organization in the Great Sahara in northern Burkina Faso near the Niger border, which led to the killing of 10 civilians and the kidnapping of 4 others.

These terrorist elements intercepted a number of civilians from the city of Dambam while they were heading to the Marcoi market in the Triangle area in the Sahel and opened fire on them. In early October, terrorist groups launched an attack on a military battalion in Yargo in the town of Barsalogo in Burkina Faso, killing 9 soldiers and wounding 5.

Security instability has prevailed in Burkina Faso and the countries of the African Sahel since 2015 due to the spread of terrorist groups in the border region known as the “Triangle”, which declare their allegiance to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.

The ECHRD affirms its total rejection of all forms of terrorism against innocent civilians in all countries of the world.

The ECHRD also denounces the importance of international and regional mechanisms to combat terrorism in the African Sahel region, in view of not compromising the human security of the peoples of the continent’s countries.
