In this regard, we recall that Martyr’s Day in Egypt is corresponding to the 9th of March every year. Egypt has announced the celebration of this day since 1969 to commemorate the passing of the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Army, Lieutenant General Abdel Moneim Riyad, in the war of attrition against the Zionist enemy. President Gamal Abdel Nasser mourned him and awarded him the rank of Lieutenant General and the Military Star of Honor, which is considered the largest military award in Egypt.
