The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development condemns the armed terrorist attack launched by the “extremist Al-Shabaab movement”, on Sunday morning, 25/6/2023, on the villages of “Salama” and “Gehody” in Lamu district, southeast Kenya, which resulted in burning number of houses, the destruction of property and killing of 5 people. Moreover, Al-Shabaab tied a 60-year-old man with a rope, slaughtered him and burned his house with all its contents, also they killed 3 others in a similar way”, while they killed the fifth by firing squad. The homes of the dead and other residents were burned during the attack that His executors then hid in a nearby forest. Lamu district is located near Kenya’s border with Somalia, and al-Shabaab militants frequently launch attacks in the area to pressure Kenya to withdraw its troops from Somalia.
The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development condemns this violent and brutal escalation of terrorist attacks and the continuous crimes carried out by the terrorist group Al-Shabaab in Kenya, as the continuation of Al-Shabaab in these cowardly attacks inside Kenya is a clear threat to its security and stability, and the safety of its citizens and residents on its territory, as well as the gross violation of the rules of international law, which reflects this movement’s blatant defiance of the international community and its disregard for international laws and norms, and its deliberate harm to the security and stability of the countries of the region.
The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development in this regard reaffirms its firm position against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and whatever its source.
The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development also stresses the seriousness of the behavior of these terrorist groups, and the need for the international community, especially the Security Council, to act to put an end to this aggressive behavior, in a way that preserves international peace and security.
The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development calls for taking a decisive stance towards the fugitive militias everywhere in the world to stop this dangerous escalation, and calls on the international and African community to the importance of concerted efforts and support for countries suffering from terrorism in defending their people and territories against these treacherous terrorist attacks and standing in the face of everything that threatens their security and the security of their people, to eradicate this dangerous phenomenon that undermines the security and stability of the world.
