The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development (ECHRD) welcomed the initiative of the Forum for Development and Human Rights Dialogue (FDHRD) requesting the Egyptian government ratifies the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol), which was issued in 2003.
Saeed Abdel Hafez, founder and coordinator of the ECHRD and a member of the National Committee for African Peer Review Mechanism, confirmed that the Coalition, which was established in 2015 and includes in its membership 550 development associations in 15 governorates, joining the campaign to ratify the Maputo Declaration would strengthen the campaign’s efforts and raise awareness of it among the member associations and its target groups. This contributes to educating local citizens in the governorates of the Delta and Upper Egypt about the texts of the Maputo Declaration and its importance in achieving the independence and leadership of rural women.
