Wide Participation of Representatives of Trade Unions in Elections of the Senate Council 2020

Observers of the Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development (ECHRD) monitored that although the “National List for Egypt” did not have a candidate for them to adopt their demands, the workers did not boycott the elections or refrain from participating in them.

Observers of ECHRD have monitored a wide participation of trade unions, their sub-committees, and local labor unions in the Senate elections, which began yesterday Tuesday and ends today Wednesday evening.

The coalition monitored the most prominent general unions participating in this election, and the manifestations and intensity of this participation.

It is noteworthy that the General Syndicate of Chemicals, which included (Kafr El-Zayat Pesticides in Beheira, Seed Pharmaceuticals Company in Giza, Delta Fertilizers, Arab Pharmaceuticals in Amiriya District, Alexandria Pharmaceuticals, Abu Qir Fertilizers in Alexandria, Nile Pharmaceuticals, Memphis). Its workers participated extensively in various governorates and neighborhoods.

This comes in addition to the workers of the land transport union in Sohag, the workers of the bank union, the workers of the tax union, the workers of the trade union, the workers of the tourism union, as well as the workers of the textile union.

The local union of workers in Giza, the local union in Assiut, and the petroleum companies in Warraq also participated in this election. The participation of these workers was organized by paying many cars and buses, to transport them from their work sites to the election committees.
