The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development welcomes the report issued by the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since (1967), Ms. Francesca Albanese, who affirms that all elements of Israel’s commission of Genocide are met.

On 25 March 2024, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since (1967), Ms. Francesca Albanese, issued a report submitted to the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council, during its discussion on Item (7): Human Rights Situation in Palestine and other occupied territories.

The report stresses after 5 months of military operations, Israel has devastated the Gaza Strip, as more than (30,000) Palestinians were killed, including more than (13,000) children, more than (12,000) people are presumed to have died, and about (71,000) injured, most of them have life-changing deformities. Moreover, 70% of residential areas were destroyed, 80% of the total population was forcibly displaced, thousands of families lost or wiped out loved ones, and many could not bury their relatives and mourn them, and instead had to leave their decomposing bodies in homes, on the streets, or under rubble. In addition, Thousands have been arrested and systematically subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment.

The report concludes that there are reasonable reasons to believe that the threshold indicating that Israel committed the crime of genocide has been met. The Israeli executive and military leadership and soldiers had deliberately distorted the principles of war, undermining their protective functions, in an attempt to legitimize genocidal violence against the Palestinian people. Moreover, Israel and the States that were complicit in what could reasonably be concluded to constitute genocide must be held accountable and reparations made commensurate with the destruction, killing, and harm caused to the Palestinian people.

In this regard, the Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights calls on the Israeli authorities to immediately and permanently cease all military operations in the occupied Palestinian territories with respect to the provisions and principles of international human rights law and calls on the international community to exert more pressure on the Israeli authorities to stop the tragic situation in the Palestinian territories.
