Urgent call

…………. …………

The Forum for Development and Human Rights Dialogue Foundation today, on May 11, 2021, calls upon The Attorney General to release Ahmed Abdelkader Tammam Allam, who is being held in pretrial detention.

Ahmed Tammam was arrested from Menoufia governorate on June 25, 2019 and remained in custody in connection with the 2019 Al Amal Alliance 930 case. His release was ordered on October 10, 2020, but  despite this he was not released and brought before the prosecution on December 1, 2020 and remained  in custody in connection with another case, 1056 for 2020.

Ahmed Abdelkader Tammam Allam has worked with several government ministries for the past 13 years and has not registered for any political party or movement.

The forum calls upon the Attorney General to review his pretrial detention order, as he has a heart condition, and is the sole family member and father of a sick child whose psychological condition was affected by the absence of his father, in accordance with the constitutional rule that required a maximum duration of pretrial detention, as well as in accordance with the provision of article (143) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which states, “In all cases, the period of pretrial detention at the stage of primary investigation and other stages of criminal proceedings may not exceed one third of the limit. The maximum penalty for the negative force of freedom is not more than six months in misdemeanours, 18 months in felonies and two years if the penalty for the crime is life imprisonment or execution.”

The forum confirms that the decision of his excellency the Attorney General to release the accused Ahmed Tammam will form a message of reassurance to an Egyptian family suffering the absence of their family and hopes that he will be able to spend Eid al-Fitr with them, and that the response of Mr. Chancellor Attorney General will be an explicit message from his excellency to the honorable  prosecutors to quickly decide on the matter of those detained in pretrial detention and respect their legitimate rights under the provisions of the Constitution and the law. The forum hopes that his Excellency will respond to the appeal of his family and can take into account his pathological circumstances can replace the prison sentence with any precautionary measures the Prosecution sees fit
