The Forum for Development and Human Rights Dialogue (FDHRD) welcomes the decision issued in the United Arab Emirates regarding unemployment that serves Egyptians in the UAE. The unemployment insurance system serves to compensate the insured with a cash amount for a specific period until an alternative job opportunity becomes available.
The labour representation office in the UAE announced the unemployment insurance system. Registration opens as of the beginning of next year 2023 It is an important decision that benefits all citizens working in the government or private sector, whether they are citizens or workers in the country, which includes Egyptian workers.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has specified 8 subscription channels and 9 national companies that provide the insurance policy. The insurance premium is 5 dirhams per month for those whose basic salary is less than 16 thousand dirhams, and 10 dirhams for those whose basic salary exceeds 16 thousand dirhams. The insurance entitlement period must not be less than 12 consecutive months, and the dismissal not be for disciplinary reasons. The payment of compensation shall be suspended if the person enrols in another job.
The value of compensation does not exceed 20,000 dirhams per month for a period of 3 months from the date of unemployment. Excluded from this unemployment insurance system are investors, owners of an establishment, auxiliary workers, workers with a temporary contract, minors, and retirees who receive a pension.
