The Foundation of the Forum for Dialogue for Development and Human Rights today condemned, Wednesday, August 31, 2022, the aerial bombardment of the city of “Mikilly”, the capital of the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, which killed at least four civilians, as Ethiopian forces launched late on Tuesday (August 30th) an airstrike using a drone targeting the Makli General Hospital in Mekelle.
The attack is the second in a series of breaches by the Ethiopian government of the truce with the Tigray rebels that lasted nearly five months, as the Ethiopian government violated the truce for the first time about a week ago with an aerial bombardment of a residential area and a kindergarten in the city of Mikilly, killing 17 people, including 3 children.
Denouncing the Ethiopian government’s targeting of civilians in Tigray Region, calling on the Ethiopian Government to abide by the agreed truce and not to target individuals and civilian facilities in the region, and calling on the international community to pressure the Ethiopian Federal Government to abide by the ceasefire and allow humanitarian access within the region to limit the exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis for the citizens of Tigray, the Dialogue Forum calls on the Ethiopian Federal Government to abide by the ceasefire and allow humanitarian access within the region to reduce the aggravation of the humanitarian crisis for the citizens of Tigray.
