The ECHRD Condemns the Spanish Security forces’ Killing of 18 Immigrants in the Melilla Enclave

Today, Sunday, June 26, 2022, the Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development (ECHRD (condemned the Spanish security attacks on a group of immigrants belonging to sub-Saharan African countries while they were trying to infiltrate the Spanish border through the Melilla enclave in the southwest of the Mediterranean, killing 18 migrants and wounding dozens.
Spanish sources reported that about two thousand migrants tried, on Friday, to enter the Spanish enclave of Melilla from Morocco, and about 130 of them managed to do so. On Saturday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez blamed the “mafia” of human smugglers for the intrusion carried out by about 2,000 African migrants, and denounced what he considered a “violent and organized attack by mafias that practice human trafficking on Spanish soil.”
On the other hand, four members of the Moroccan border guards were killed during attempts to confront the migrants who crossed the border fence.
The Egyptian coalition demands that an urgent, comprehensive and in-depth investigation be conducted to determine the circumstances and circumstances of the incident.
