The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development condemns the ambush of a military convoy by ISIL militants in West Africa on Friday, 2/6/2023, near the village of Metelli in Borno state in the northeastern of Nigeria.

It is worth mentioning that the convoy was travelling to the village of Arij to deliver food to soldiers fighting militants in the area, subsequently, armed clashes broke out between the parties, ending with a suicide bomber attack driving a car bomb that detonated his car among the military. This attack resulted in loss of many military personnel.
On Monday, 5/6/2023, ISIL claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that at least 20 Nigerian military personnel had been killed and wounded.

The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development condemns this terrorist attack on Nigerian military personnel, and the threats of ISIS which are increasing day by day in Africa. Actually, since ISIS has expanded its influence within Africa, none of the geopolitical zones of the five regions of Africa have been spared from the organization’s activities. Many countries are suffering from the spread of the terrorist organization, especially the ISIL branch in Central and West Africa, which continues to pose a serious threat to the countries of the region as it seeks to:

  • Make the citizens lose their confidence in their state.
  • Displace tens of thousands of their areas of origin.
  • Killing thousands of innocent victims and violating their rights.
  • Destabilizing the region’s stability.

The Egyptian Coalition for Human Rights and Development warns terrorist organizations of the repercussions and consequences of continuing these terrorist attacks and violent acts that violate international human rights laws and norms and threat the security and safety of the African continent.

The Egyptian Coalition calls for taking strict security measures in the region, holding the perpetrators accountable, and making more efforts and providing more assistance from the major countries that support African countries so that these countries can confront these terrorist organizations fiercely, and eliminate them once and for all so that peace and stability prevail in the region.
